How we can support swimmers

Each swimmer will be offered a five-day window to undertake their swim so you may choose your preferred date, subject to professional advice concerning weather and/or any other conditions.*1

What we will do for swimmers *2

・Arrange the escort boat and pilots (who will also act as captain and deputy-captain)

・Submitting the requisite notice to the appropriate authorities, such as the Japan Coast Guard

・Arrange for the Tsugaru Strait Swimming Federation (TSSF) Japanese staff to observe the swim

・Issue the certificate of completion and related reports of your swim

*1　Your attempt date will be determined by a discussion between the swimmer and TSSF.

*2　The costs for travel, accommodation, and meals are not included in the Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim fee. We do not provide an interpreter. Please include at least one Japanese speaking member in your team who must be present on any swim attempt day.

How to apply for the Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim 2026

Application Period: from 5th November 2025 to 30th November 2025 (JST)
*Applications will be considered, and decisions made, after the application window closes and are not considered on a first come-first served basis. We may contact you to discuss the schedule before the notification.

Attached document 1 : Rules Acknowledgement and Agreement

Attached document 2 : A certificate proving that the applicant successfully completed a solo swim for 4 hours or more in water temperatures of 16℃ or lower within the last 18 months.
*“Certificate” refers to an official document such as a completion certificate or an observer’s report issued
by a third-party organization. Self- reported documents are not accepted as valid certificates.

Medical Assessment Form 2026

Please note that the Medical Assessment Form 2026 must be completed after the date of notification of the decision to conduct the Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim.

Arrival information sheet and Japan travel plans
For safety checks in case of emergencies, we will ask the participants to submit the “Arrival Information Sheet” and “Japan Travel Plans” no later than three weeks prior to the first day of their allocated time slot.

Application Decision Date: We will notify the applicant by 31st December 2025 (JST)
Contract: The contract will accompany the successful application decision notification. You must sign and return the contract to us as directed at that time.
Swim Fee: 800,000 JPY payable as a deposit of 400,000 JPY and final payment of 400,000 JPY.
Payment: Bank transfer of the deposit to TSSF’s bank account by 28th February 2025 (JST) with the final payment to be made by bank transfer as directed.
Swim Date: One day from the five possible dates which you will be allocated.
Swim Report: We will issue a report of your swim and the certificate of completion when you succeed on your attempt.
