We are delighted to announce that Nakadomari has decided to support a relay swim as a main event for a local festival being held in July 2026, and applications are now open!


Possible Attempt Dates

4 July 2026 or 5 July 2026

The event date shall be decided, or if necessary cancelled, depending on weather and/or sea conditions.

How we will support the participating team

・Arrange the escort boat and pilots (who will also act as captain and deputy-captain)

・Submit the requisite notice(s) to the appropriate authorities, such as the Japan Coast Guard

・Arrange for the Tsugaru Strait Swimming Federation (TSSF) Japanese staff to observe the swim

・Issue the certificate of completion

*This swim event will be financially supported by Mutsu-Ogawara Development Corporation Foundation therefore no swim fee will be required

How to apply for the 2026 Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim Relay

Application Deadline: 17:00, 15th May 2026 (JST)
*Applications will be considered, and decisions made, after the application window closes and are not considered on a first come-first served basis.

Application Documents:

・Application Form

・Identification document (copy of passport with name and photo page) for each participant

・Other documents deemed necessary by the Organiser

・Certificate evidence of swimming for 30 minutes or more in seawater below 18°C*

*Only required for teams attempting under the TSSF Relay official rules.

Before submitting the Application Form, please be sure to thoroughly review the “Your Commitment section” in the Application Form as well as the other documents such as “2026 Tsugaru Strait Exchange Festival Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim -Relay- Application Guidelines”, “2026 Tsugaru Strait Exchange Festival Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim -Relay- Alternative Methods and Rules.
