How we can support swimmers
Each swimmer will be offered a five day window to undertake their swim so you may choose your preferred date, subject to professional advice concerning weather and/or any other conditions.*1

What we will do for swimmers *2

・Arrange the boat and pilot

・Submitting the requisite notice to the appropriate authorities, such as the Japan Coast Guard

・Arrange for the Tsugaru Strait Long Distance Swim Federation (TLF) Japanese staff to observe the swim

・Issue the certificate of achievement and related reports of your swim

*1 Your attempt date will be determined by a discussion between the swimmer, TLF and the pilot. As far as is possible, attempts shall be carried out during or near to neap tide.
*2 The costs for travel, accommodation, and meals are not included in the Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim fee. We do not provide an interpreter. Please include at least one Japanese speaking member in your team who must be present on any swim attempt day.

How to apply for the Tsugaru Strait Cross Swim

Application Period: from the date application forms are available on this webpage to 31st January 2025 (JST)

Application Documents:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the application forms are not yet available and application period is therefore delayed. We will update this page with further information when available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us using the email address at the bottom of this page.
*The person completing these forms must be the swimmer applicant and cannot be a third party.
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age at the date the application is submitted.
Application Decision Date: We will notify the swimmer by 15th February 2025 (JST)
*Applications will be considered, and decisions made, after the application window closes and are not considered on a first come-first served basis. We may contact you to discuss the schedule before the notification.

Contract: The contract will accompany the successful application decision notification. You must sign and return the contract to us as directed at that time.
Swim Fee: 800,000 JPY payable as a deposit of 400,000 JPY and final payment of 400,000 JPY.
Payment: Bank transfer of the deposit to TLF’s bank account by 15th March 2025 (JST) with the final payment to be made by bank transfer as directed.
Swim Date: One day from the five possible dates which you will be allocated.

Swim Report: We will issue a report of your swim and the certificate for achievement when you succeed on your attempt.

**Our office closes at 17:00hrs on Wednesday 25 December 2024 and reopens at 08:15hrs on Tuesday 7 January 2025 (JST) for Year-end holidays and New year holidays.
